Healthy Relationships Week

"Love is... William & Mary"

Healthy Relationships Week, celebrated the week of Valentine's Day, aims to draw attention to the positive aspects of romantic relationships. Often, the conversation around domestic violence, our main philanthropic focus, centers around aspects of unhealthy and abusive relationships. For this week, Alpha Chi Omega tries to reframe the conversation to honor the healthy aspects of love.

Studies have found that people who take the time to articulate what they want in a relationship are more likely to actually find that. We hope that in defining healthy love, William & Mary students will recognize, subconsciously or consciously, what they need in a healthy relationship, and then seek out that level of respect.

All week long, sisters of Alpha Chi Omega table in the Sadler Center. They offer information cards on red flags, aspects of healthy relationships, and resources, to students passing by. Students and staff also have the opportunity to take photos holding a white board saying what healthy “Love is….” to them. Sisters emphasized that the focus was all types and forms of loving relationships: love of oneself, love between friends, loving family, and everyday things that bring students joy.

We are so proud and impressed by the support of the William & Mary community, both Greek and non-affiliated, and their participation in this week. We are also thankful our efforts were recognized at the Spring 2015 Order of Omega Greek Awards, where Alpha Chi recieved the "Outstanding Campus Wide Intiative Award" for Healthy Relationships Week.
